The Single Crochet Stitch, Your First Friend

Call me crazy, but I tend to personify pets, inanimate objects, crochet stitches...it amuses me immensely!  So the single crochet, he's like that first friend you meet in a new school.  He's very kind, helpful and easy to be around.  As you "meet" more complicated crochet stitches, you see him around and say, Hey, single crochet, I remember you, old friend!  Is it weird that my brain works this way?  Anyway, enough with my shenanigans!!

What You'll Need:

Honestly, we're just playing around at this point, so you can use any crochet hook and yarn you have around.  In my pictures and video, I used an H/5.00 MM crochet hook and some Red Heart #4 weight yarn in light blue.  

How to Do the Single Crochet Stitch

Once you have crocheted your beginning chain (according to the pattern you're following) and have accounted for the turning chain of 1 (your number of chains plus 1), you'll start with the second chain from the hook. 

​In this case, we're making 11 chains.  See below
Step 1:  Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook​ 
​Step 2:  Yarn over and pull back through the stitch (you'll have 2 loops on your hook)
​Step 3:  Yarn over one more time and pull through both loops.  If you're crocheting in rows (as opposed to in rounds), you'll chain 1 and turn your work; See below
Repeat the steps above until you have the desired length.  See below

What If You're Crocheting in a Circle?

No problem!! Just follow the three basic steps for the single crochet stitch above, except into your circle.  Note that this time you won't chain 1 and turn, though, because you'll be making a circle!  Circles come a little later, I just wanted to show you what single crochets in a circle look like!

The Kisses N Hugs Bracelet

I know how much you love texture!  If you're familiar with my Kisses N Hugs collection, you know there's lots of texture in those patterns!  I've designed a cowl and some fingerless gloves with a similar stitch sequence.  But I'm not done yet!  Keep an eye out for a hat, coming soon.  For now, though, I wanted to design a pattern for warm weather, that you can make and wear now!

The beauty of this bracelet/cuff is how customizable it is!  You can make it a wider cuff or a more narrow bracelet.  It can be made longer to become an anklet!  And by using different colors and button styles, you can make it bright or more earthy.  I'm just so excited to share this with you because there are so many possibilities for you to really make it your own!

Level of Difficulty:  Easy

Materials Needed:

  • Approximately 13 - 15 yards of #4 weight cotton yarn; I used Peaches & Creme yarn in the color, Rosemary
  • Size G/4.00 MM crochet hook
  • 3/4" button of your choice; if you'd like to use a different size, just make sure you adjust the number of chains for the button loop
  • A sewing needle and thread to sew on the button; I used size #10 crochet thread to sew mine on, but any kind of thread will do
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends

Gauge:

15 SCX ST's in 4"
​17 1/2 Rows in 4"

Finished Measurements:

Available widths:  1" bracelet or 1 1/4" cuff
Available lengths:  6 1/2" bracelet, 7" bracelet, 7 1/2" bracelet, 8" bracelet, 9 1/2" anklet
​The instructions that follow are for the 7" L x 1 1/4" W cuff.

Abbreviations Used:

  • CH = chain
  • ST = stitch
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • SCX = single crochet x stitch
  • PS = puff stitch
  • YO = yarn over

Special Stitches:

SCX:  Insert your hook into the desired ST, YO from above instead of from below the yarn, pull through the ST, YO and pull through

PS:  YO, insert your hook into the ST, YO and pull up a loop (you now have 3 loops on your hook), YO, insert the hook into the same ST, YO and pull up a loop (you have 5 loops on your hook), YO, insert the hook into the same ST, YO and pull up a loop (you have 7 loops on your hook), YO, insert the hook into the same ST, YO and pull up a loop (you have 9 loops on your hook), YO and pull through all 9 loops on your hook

Pattern Notes:

  • CH 1 at the end of each row does not count as a ST
  • Free pattern is for the 7" bracelet; instructions for the 6 1/2", 7 1/2", 8", and 9 1/2" are included in the PDF
  • * to * indicates a repeat of the stitches that are between the * and *
  • to make the narrow 1" bracelet, simply omit Rows 2 and 5
  • Keep in mind that if you use a different size button, you'll need to adjust the size of the button loop by either adding or subtracting Chains (See the end of Row 5)

How to Make the 7" Kisses N Hugs Bracelet/Cuff

The Pattern:

Row 1:  CH 29, then SCX into the 3rd ST from the hook and each ST across (27 ST's), CH 1 and turn
NOTE:  For the narrower 1" bracelet/anklet, only work Row 1 once, and omit Row 2!

Row 2:  Repeat Row 1, (27 ST's), CH 1 and turn
Row 3:  Work 1 PS into the first ST, then 1 SCX into the next ST, *1 PS into the next ST, 1 SCX into the next ST*, continue from * to * across the row; your last ST should be a PS, (27 ST's), CH 1 and turn
Row 4:  Work 1 SCX into each ST across (27 ST's), CH 1 and turn

NOTE:  For the narrower 1" bracelet/anklet, you will stop at Row 4!
Row 5:  Repeat Row 4, (27 ST's), then SC into the turning CH from Row 3, CH 3 for the button hole (CH 4 or 5 for the narrower 1" bracelet), SC into the end ST of Row 1, SL ST into the 1st CH ST from Row 1
Tie off your yarn and weave in the ends

Time to sew the button on!  Sew the button on the end that's opposite the button loop, between the first 2 puff stitches.

Hello, Crochet Peeps!! 
​Do you get migraines?  I do too!!  Ugh, they are the worst!  🤕 And it's funny the strange things that can trigger them.  Two of my notorious triggers are having my hair up or wearing a headband that's too tight.

And I HAVE to wear a headband because silly me thought it would be a great idea to have bangs cut in my hair 🤦‍♀️! Now, I'm not judging anyone who has bangs!  I think they're adorable!  And I loved them for about a day because I honestly think they made me look younger.  Come to find out, though, I can't stand my hair in my face.  So until my bangs grow out, a headband it is! 

The Problem with Some Headbands

Do you have these issues too?  Please tell me I'm not alone!  When a headband is the same width all the way around, it causes a bump in your hair on the back of your head!  I'm always reaching around, feeling the bump, and tugging the back of the headband down.  And let's not forget the headaches!  Yes, I know I'm kind of a delicate mess..

The Solution

There's this ONE headband I own, and I don't remember where I bought it from.  It has a pretty braided design on the top, but the bottom is made with two stretchy hair ties.  It's the most comfortable headband ever, because it never squeezes my head!  But I only have one..that's where the design for this Summer Headband came from, and I had to share it with you!  It's so fun to be able to make your own hair accessories!  I'm going to show you how easy it is too!

Difficulty Level:

Easy!

Finished Measurements:  

The yarn portion of the headband is 11" L x 1 1/4" W, then the hair ties add another 5" to the length

Gauge:

17 HDC's in 4", 7 HDC rows in 4"

Materials:

  • Approximately 16 yards of Caron Simply Soft yarn, although you can substitute any comparable #4 weight acrylic yarn
  • Size G/4.00 MM crochet hook
  • 2 - 2 MM hair ties (the thin ones), 2 3/4" wide
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends

Abbreviations:

  • CH = chain
  • ST = stitch
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • SK = skip
  • * to * = indicates a repeat of the stitch sequence that's in between the asterisks

Notes:

  • You can increase the width of this headband by simply adding repeats of Row 2 until you reach the width you like; just make sure to always work the last stitch of each row into the stitch AND around the hair tie as well!
  • Although there are pictures to show the steps to make this headband, I've also included a video tutorial!

How to Make the Sunny Summer Headband

The Pattern:

Start by joining the two hair ties together using a slip knot.  Attach your yarn onto one of the hair ties by working a CH ST around the hair tie
Row 1:  CH 49, including the CH you worked around the hair tie; work the 50th CH around the other hair tie, CH 1 more, and work 1 SC into the 2nd CH from the hook and into each CH across, working your last SC through the ST AND the hair tie (50 SC's), CH 1 and turn
Row 2:  HDC into the 1st ST, *SK the next ST, HDC into the next ST, now go back and HDC into the ST you skipped*, repeat from * to * across until the last 3 ST of the row remain; SK a ST, HDC into the next ST, go back and HDC into the skipped ST, then HDC into the last ST of the row AND around the hair tie, CH 1 and turn

NOTE:  Row 2 can be repeated until your headband is the desired width, or worked just once for a narrow headband!  
Row 3:  Repeat Row 2 exactly, with the last HDC worked into the last ST AND around the hair tie, CH 1 and turn

Row 4:  SC into each ST across, working the last SC into the ST AND around the hair tie.  Tie off your yarn and weave in the ends!

It's Scrunchy time!!  As a woman in my..ahem..40's..I cannot stand my hair down when the weather gets warm.  And who wants to spend extra money on scrunchies when you can make your own?  I didn't think you did, so scroll down to see the free pattern!
I've also included a video tutorial for making this scrunchy!  
Skill Level:  very easy!

Materials: 
  • Caron Simply Soft Yarn in the color Limelight
  • Size H/5.00 MM crochet hook
  • 1 regular size hair tie
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends
Gauge:  Gauge is not crucial to this pattern
Finished Size:  
Stitch Abbreviations:  
  • SC = single crochet
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • * to * = indicates a repeat of whatever stitches are in between the asterisks
Pattern Notes:  The Chain 3 in Round 2 does count as a stitch

How to Make this Easy Scrunchy

Pattern:
Start by inserting your hook through the middle of the hair tie.  Turn the hair tie so that your stitches will be made around the hair tie.  Secure the yarn to the hair tie by making a SL ST around the hair tie.
​Round 1:  Work 45 SC around the hair tie, join with a SL ST into the first SC (45 SC's), see photos below
Round 2:  CH 3, work 2 HDC into the same ST as the CH 3, *work 3 HDC into the next ST*, repeat from * to * all the way around, join with a SL ST into the top of the CH 3 (135 HDC's)

​Tie off your yarn and weave in the ends!
And that's it!!  I hope you enjoy these! This pattern is great for using up those small amounts of yarn left over from other projects.  I'd love to see your scrunchies!

Hello, Crochet Peeps! How are you?  I hope you're doing awesome!  What I have to share today should make you even happier, because it's a new free crochet pattern!  

So let's talk about showering!  I know it's a little personal, but I promise you...

it's not gonna be gross or anything!  I'm talking about soap savers!  There's a story behind this.  My family and I used to be "puffers", meaning users of bath puffs and shower gel.  With five people in my household at one time, we were constantly buying shower gel and puffs, and it was adding up!  

The Hero of the Story
Enter the cotton soap saver to save the day!  I get so excited because I LOVE them!  You can make your own soap savers, so you don't have to buy store puffs.  You can get several bars of soap for the same price or less than shower gel.  Each family member gets their own soap saver and bar of soap, and the soap lasts so much longer!  No sad little soap slivers have to be thrown away anymore, instead they get used!  It's like having a mini wash cloth to help your soap lather up nicely.  AND they're eco-friendly in that they can be washed, dried and re-used over and over again!  What more can I say?

So Quick and Easy

If you haven't noticed already, I tend to lean toward patterns that don't take super long to work up.  Once in awhile I'll create a more time consuming pattern, but for the most part, quicker is better!  These little soap savers work up so quickly, you can make a bunch!  The majority of the saver is made with double crochet stitches, so it would have lots of holes for the soap to come through.   Throw in a few single crochet stitches to make the base and that's it!  Any beginner can make these!

Skill Level:

Easy

Materials:

  • Approximately 19 yards of #4 weight cotton yarn; I used Lily Sugar'n Cream in the color Hot Green 
  • Size J/6.00 MM crochet hook
  • a Stitch Marker is helpful
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle to weave in your ends

Gauge:

17 ST in 4", stitch sequence is 2 DC, SK ST, 2 DC, SK ST
6 1/2 rows in 4"

Finished Size:

5 1/2" L x 2 3/4" W

Abbreviations Used:

  • CH = chain stitch
  • ST = stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • DC = double crochet
  • SK = skip
  • * to * indicates a ST repeat of whatever ST's are between the * and *

How to Make This Easy Soap Saver

The Pattern:
You'll start with the base or bottom of the soap saver.
Row 1:  CH 7, SC in 2nd CH from the hook and in each CH ST across (6 ST), CH 1 and turn 
Row 2:  SC into each ST across (6 ST); do not turn because you'll be working across the end, the first CH row, then the other end 
Without turning, SC into the end of each row (2 ST's), then continue to SC into each ST from the beginning CH (6 ST's), then into the other end of each row (2 ST's), SL ST into the first SC of Row 2; you'll have a total of 16 ST's around. 
This next section will be worked in continuous rounds, so you will not be joining at the end of each round.
Rounds 3 - 7:  SK the first ST, work 2 DC into the next ST  (I mark the 1st DC with a ST marker), *SK the next ST, 2 DC into the next ST*, continue from * to * until you have 7 rounds (the ST marker will let you know how far you have to go to have 7 complete rounds, it should be lined up with your last completed ST)
Once you have 7 complete rounds, SL ST into the very next ST 
Round 8:  CH 3, then work 1 DC into each ST around, SL ST into the top of the CH 3 (16 ST)
Tie off yarn and weave in the ends of the soap saver.

To make the Drawstring:  CH 35, then tie off yarn again, using the yarn needle, weave the drawstring in and out of the DC ST's from the last round.  Tie the 2 ends of the drawstring together  and secure with a couple of knots, then cut off the ends to your desired length.  I like to leave a little bit of an end.

A couple of days ago, there was snow on the ground here in Central New York, the wind was gusting and it felt more like February than the end of April.

Today the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and it's a glorious 60 degrees!  Ah, the craziness of Spring weather.  Every day is an adventure!  
I have to admit that I struggle with winter and even rainy days.  They tend to give me the blues, so I wanted a project that was cheerful and bright.  These flower coasters were perfect!

This pattern is so simple and quick.  It consists of only four rounds including the petals of the flowers.  You can use so many colors in all different combinations to make them your own!  I do have to say that if you choose to make a coaster with four different colors,  add some extra time for changing colors and weaving in multiple ends.

Cheerful Flower Coaster Pattern

Skill Level:  Easy
Materials: 
  • Approx. 12 yards of Red Heart Super Saver in Pumpkin, which is a #4 weight yarn
  • Size H/5.00 MM crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends

Gauge:  Not important in this pattern
Finished Size:  4 1/2"L x 4 1/2"W

Abbreviations Used:
  • MC = magic circle
  • CH = chain
  • DC = double crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch

Pattern Notes:  The CH 3 at the beginning of each round counts as 1 DC stitch

How to make this Cheerful Flower Coaster

Pattern:
Round 1:  Start with a MC, then CH 3 and DC 11 into the circle, join with a SL ST into the top of the CH 3 (12 ST)
Round 2:  CH 3, work a DC into the same ST as the CH 3, then work 2 DC into each ST around, join with a SL ST into the top of the CH 3 (24 ST)
Round 3:  CH 3, work a DC into the same ST as the CH 3, then work 1 DC into the next ST, then *2 DC into the next ST, then 1 DC into the next ST*, repeat from * to * around, join with a SL ST into the top of the CH 3 (36 ST)
Round 4:  CH 2 this time, work a DC into the same ST as the CH 3, work 2 DC into the next ST, SL ST into the next 2 ST's, *2 DC into the next 2 ST's, SL ST into the next 2 ST's*, repeat from * to * around; join with a SL ST into the top of the CH 2
And there you have it, your own Cheerful Flower Coaster!  Doesn't it feel good to be able to make something so cute?  These would make the perfect Mother's Day gift!  And they're a fun way to use up any small amounts of yarn you have around that you didn't think would be enough to do anything with!

Hi there!  How is the beginning of Spring treating you?  Are you staying safe and calm?  Freaking out a little?  Or a lot?  All of these feelings are completely understandable, but trying to stay calm is so much healthier for us than giving in to panic and fear.  

As someone who suffers from anxiety, I know how easy it is to feel helpless when it feels like so much of our environment is out of control.  When I start to feel those nervous vibes creeping up on me, I crochet!  The repetitive motion of crocheting instantly grounds me.  

These little hand towels are the result of me feeling anxious and trying to focus on something that is in my control.  In my house, we have one bathroom.  Everyone tends to use the SAME towel to dry their hands, which is just not a great idea right now.  Paper products are in high demand so I decided to make something.  These hand/face towels are so simple to make and work up so quickly that you can make a lot of them in a very short time!  I figured I would make so many that I could wash them often and still have plenty to use.  
So that happened....and I'm still making more!  I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but if I used up one color of yarn in the middle of a towel, I just added a different color.  I figure the more unique they are, the less chance of people using someone else's towel!  
If you want a super simple yet useful project, just crochet up a bunch of these towels.  I took a poll of my family members and they all felt that these are big enough to use as face/hand towels!
Level of Difficulty:  Easy

Finished Measurements:  
14 3/4"L x 10 1/2"W

Gauge:
11 HDC ST in 4"
​10 Rows in 4"

What You'll Need:  
  • Any worsted weight cotton yarn; I used size 4 yarn of different brands
  • Size J/6.00 MM crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends

​Abbreviations Used:
  • CH = chain
  • ST = stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • HDC = half double crochet; Note, if you need to see a quick video tutorial of this stitch, check it out HERE!

The Pattern:
Row 1:  CH 30, work 1 HDC into the 3rd CH from the hook and into each CH across (28 ST), CH 1 and turn
Row 2:  HDC into each ST across (28 ST), CH 1 and turn
Row 3 - 34:  Repeat Row 2 until you have 34 rows total; don't tie off your yarn yet!
We're going to add a SC border around the whole piece.  Starting with the last ST you worked into, work a SC into the same ST.

Rotate your work 90 degrees so you're working along the side of your towel, and SC into the ST at the end of each row (34 ST)

Don't forget to work 2 SC's into the corner.  This helps the towel to lay flat.
Rotate your towel 90 degrees again and work 1 SC across your beginning chain end (28).  Work 2 SC's into that corner, and rotate your towel again and place a SC into the ST at the end of each row (34), place 2 SC's into the corner

Rotate your towel one more time and SC into your last row of HDC's (28), SL ST into the first SC; don't tie off your yarn yet!

I'm sure you can tell I love putting loops on everything!  I just feel like items that can be hung on a hook are less likely to collect germs. 

​To add a loop on the corner:  CH 10 and SL ST into the same ST the CH came out of, now you can tie off your yarn and weave in your ends!

Hi there!  How are you holding up?  I'm not gonna lie, I've been stressed.  So far, knock on wood, my family has stayed healthy.  My husband has a terrible cough, but has seen the doctor, and was told it's his asthma acting up.  So I've been praying a lot.  And trying to stay positive in spite of the chaos outside of the house.  
I'm trying to think of quick and easy crochet projects that will keep us busy!  For some reason, I've been in a cottony mood.  Awhile back, I made these cute little dish scrubbies, and I absolutely love them!  First of all, sponges get so germy.  I think we've all smelled a sponge that's overstayed its welcome...gross (insert exaggerated fake gagging noise).  And other dish cloths I've used are so sloppy!  Have you ever been washing away and you get a dish soap bubble in the eye from the dish rag flopping around?  If you haven't, then I'm probably weird.  Either way, these little round scrubbies have a soft side for nonstick pans and a rough side for scrubbing.  And no flopping!  As an added bonus, you can just toss them in the laundry whenever they get dirty.  
Materials:
  • Cotton yarn of your choice (I've even used acrylic yarn for some of mine and it's worked just fine); I used Lily Sugar'n Cream in multiple colors
  • Scrubby yarn of your choice; I used Red Heart Scrubby yarn in Ocean
  • Size H/5.00 MM crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends
Abbreviations used:
  • CH = chain
  • ST = stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • DC = double crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch
Special Stitches:

Hi.  I hope this post finds you healthy and calm.  I know the world has been a scary place the last couple of weeks.  I wake up some days and feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.  It's been so overwhelming, hasn't it?  In my house we've adopted certain habits, like only watching happy movies or funny shows, and trying to carry on life as normally as possible.  I also thought what a great time to post some easy crochet patterns so you and I can de-stress! 
In the spirit of staying positive and calm, let's crochet something!  Do you wanna crochet a washcloth?  It's super easy, has lots of texture, and is oh so pretty!  Crochet your own little piece of happiness and calm in less than an hour!
Gauge: 
In rows with puff stitches, 11 1/2 ST in 4"
In rows with HDC's, 12 ST in 4"
11 rows in 4"
Finished Measurements:  Approximately 8"L x 9"W
What You'll Need:
  • 2 oz of cotton yarn; I used Lily Sugar'n Cream cotton because it's more absorbent for bath items.  
  • Size H/ 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends
Abbreviations:
  • CH = chain
  • ST = stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • YO = yarn over
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • PS = puff stitch
Special Stitches:
  • HDC (half double crochet):  YO, insert your hook into the desired stitch, YO and pull up a loop (you now have 3 loops on your hook),  YO and pull through all 3 loops.
  • PS (puff stitch):  note, this puff only has 5 loops - YO, insert your hook into the desired stitch, YO and pull up a loop (you have 3 loops on your hook), YO and insert the hook back into the same stitch, YO and pull up a loop (you have 5 loops on your hook), YO and pull through all 5 loops.

The Edging: 
Work a SC into the same ST as the last HDC ST
Rotate your work 90 degrees so that you are working along the side of the washcloth, and work 1 SC into the end of each of the 19 rows, making sure to work 2 SC ST into the corner (this ensures that your washcloth will lay flat and not curl up at the corners)

Rotate your work again and work a SC into the end of each of the 19 rows on the other side of the washcloth, work 2 SC ST into the corner

To make a loop for hanging at the corner of the washcloth:  From where your hook is, CH 10 and SL ST back into the same ST where you started the CH 10 (this forms the loop).  Now you can tie off your yarn and weave in the ends!

How have you been?  We're coming to the end of January and I feel like it's been a looong winter here in Upstate New York.  Winters here can be kind of dark and dreary, so I try to surround myself with happy things!  Happy songs, happy movies, happy vibes, you get the idea!  A good cup of hot coffee on a cold day...and yarn, lots of yarn!  

When I think of happiness in winter, I think of anything that keeps me warm and cozy.  The idea for these gloves came from me wanting something fluffy, squishy and warm.  I love how they came out, so I want to share them with you!  I hope you love them too!
This is a beginner friendly pattern.  It basically consists of single crochet and double crochet stitches.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and I'll be happy to answer them.

Skill Level:  Beginner

Gauge:  gauge is not crucial to this pattern.  You can increase or decrease the size of the glove by using a smaller or larger crochet hook

Materials:  
*Scissors
​*Yarn Needle
*Either a size K - 10.5/ 6.50 MM hook or a size M - 13/ 9.00 MM hook
*Any super bulky #6 yarn will work; the yarn in my pictures is Lion Brand Hometown in Tampa Spice; I love Lion Brand Hometown yarn, it's so soft and warm!

Abbreviations used:
ST = stitch
CH = chain
SL ST = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
BLO = back loop only
FLO = front loop only
Notes: 
​*In this pattern, the CH 1 does not count as a stitch.

Starting with the cuff and working in rows,

Working on the Glove, and now working in rounds,

​So the cold weather is making an appearance in Upstate New York!  In the building where I work, it's either warm and stifling or freezing so much that my fingers don't want to type!  Other fingerless gloves I've worn were so bulky that I was unable to write comfortably.
I came up with these gloves that I think are cute and not too bulky if you need to write, text...or smoke (insert disapproving look).  It's okay, some of the ladies I work with love these gloves for their smoke break.  

What You'll Need:

Materials:
US G6/4.00 MM crochet hook
US H8/5.00 MM crochet hook
Any Size 4 yarn will work, but I used Caron Simply Soft yarn because it's so soft!

​Abbreviations:
CH = chain
​ST = stitch
SL ST = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
HDC = half double crochet
DC = double crochet
BLO = back loop only

How to Make These Fingerless Gloves

To Make the Cuff using the Size 4.00 MM crochet hook,
Row 1:  CH 11; CH 1 and turn (10 stitches)

Row 2:  SC in BLO of each stitch across (10 stitches)

Row 3:  Repeat Row 2 until you have 24 rows

Fold your cuff in half and slip stitch across until it's closed.  CH 1

To Make the Glove:
Round 1:  still using the 4.00 MM crochet hook, work 1 SC in each stitch along the edge of the cuff (24 stitches).  Join with a SL ST into the first SC of the round.  CH 1

*Switch to the 5.00 MM crochet hook for the rest of the glove.  

Round 2:  Work 1 HDC into each ST around (24 stitches).  SL ST into the top of the first HDC.  CH 1; ** See photo below

Round 3:  Work 1 SC into the BLO of each ST around (24 stitches).  SL ST into the first SC.  CH 1; ** See photo below
( I slip stitch into the whole stitch here, as it doesn't really change the look of the glove.)

Rounds 4 - 10:  Continue to alternate Rounds 2 and 3 until you have 10 rounds.  Round 10 should be a HDC round.

Round 11 for the Right Glove:  having ended your last round with a CH 1, SC into the BLO of the next 6 ST, CH 4, Skip the next 4 ST, continue to SC in the BLO around (24 stitches), SL ST into the first SC ST.  CH 1

Round 11 for the Left Glove:  having ended your last round with a CH 1, SC into the BLO of each ST around, until you come to the last 4 stitches of the round.  CH 4 and skip those stitches.  SL ST into the first SC.  CH 1

Round 12:  Work 1 HDC into each ST around (24 stitches).  SL ST into the first HDC of the round.  CH 1

Round 13:  Work 1 SC into the BLO of each stitch around (24 stitches).  SL ST into the first SC of the round.  CH 1

Repeat Rounds 12 and 13 until you have 16 rounds.  Your last round should be a HDC Round.  Do not CH 1 at the end of Round 16.

Round 17:  Having ended your last round without a CH 1, *work 3 DC into the next ST, SL ST into the next ST, skip the next ST*, work 3 DC into the next ST, SL ST into the next ST, SL ST into the next ST.  Repeat this sequence 6 more times around until you end up with 8 scallops or shell shapes.  Finish off yarn and weave in the ends!

Fall makes me soooo happy!  I love everything about it, from the cooler weather to the colors of the changing leaves.  Just the word "Fall" brings a flood of images to mind...apples...apple cider...scarecrows....hay bales....and PUMPKINS!

SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 4). 

SL ST into the next 10 stitches.  CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 5),

SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 6),

SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 7),

SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 8). 

SL ST into the next 3 stitches, work 1 DC into the next open stitch, then SL ST into the top of the first CH 3 of the round (this finishes the spider's head).   Fasten off and weave in the ends.
