Just kidding! Of course I want you to read this post. Fun fact about me - I am terrified of spiders! Even the little ones give me the creeps, much less the huge ones like tarantulas!! And when I found out that Daddy Long Legs spiders are venomous, oh boy...no, I don't care that their mouths or fangs or whatever it is they have are too small to bite us, the potential is there, people!
So why create a spider coaster? I have to admit there's a small part of me that likes to be scared, but in a fun way. And who doesn't love Halloween? So in honor of the upcoming super fun holiday, I want to share my free pattern with you!
I used:
Size H8/5.00 MM crochet hook Scissors Yarn Needle Abbreviations: CH = chain DC = double crochet ST = stitch SL ST = slip stitch
The Body
Starting with a magic circle: (note, if you'd like to see how to make a magic circle, click this LINK for a video tutorial)
Round 1: CH 3 inside the magic circle, work 11 DC inside the circle, join with a SL ST into the 2nd CH of the CH 3 (12 ST)
Round 2: CH 3, work 1 DC in the same ST as the CH 3, work 2 DC into each ST around, join with a SL ST into the 2nd CH of the CH 3 (24 ST)
Round 3: CH 3, Work 1 DC in the same ST as the CH 3, work 1 DC in the next ST, work 2 DC in the next ST, and repeat all the way around, join with a SL ST into the 2nd CH of the CH 3 (36 ST)
The Legs
Round 4: CH 3, work 2 DC in the same ST as the CH 3. This forms half of the spider's head. SL ST into the next ST, SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9. Starting from the first CH from the hook, SL ST into each CH, including the ST the CH 9 came out of. (Leg 1), SL ST into the next 3 stitches, then CH 9, and SL ST into each CH, including the ST the CH 9 came out of. (Leg 2), SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of. (Leg 3), SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 4). SL ST into the next 10 stitches. CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 5), SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 6), SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 7), SL ST into the next 3 stitches, CH 9, and SL ST into each ST, including the ST the CH 9 came out of (Leg 8). SL ST into the next 3 stitches, work 1 DC into the next open stitch, then SL ST into the top of the first CH 3 of the round (this finishes the spider's head). Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Ta daaaaa!!! A creepy little buddy to hold your favorite fall drink! Enjoy and Happy Halloween!
