Hi.  I hope this post finds you healthy and calm.  I know the world has been a scary place the last couple of weeks.  I wake up some days and feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.  It's been so overwhelming, hasn't it?  In my house we've adopted certain habits, like only watching happy movies or funny shows, and trying to carry on life as normally as possible.  I also thought what a great time to post some easy crochet patterns so you and I can de-stress!
In the spirit of staying positive and calm, let's crochet something!  Do you wanna crochet a washcloth?  It's super easy, has lots of texture, and is oh so pretty!  Crochet your own little piece of happiness and calm in less than an hour!
Gauge:
In rows with puff stitches, 11 1/2 ST in 4"
In rows with HDC's, 12 ST in 4"
11 rows in 4"
Finished Measurements:  Approximately 8"L x 9"W
What You'll Need:
  • 2 oz of cotton yarn; I used Lily Sugar'n Cream cotton because it's more absorbent for bath items.
  • Size H/ 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle for weaving in your ends
Abbreviations:
  • CH = chain
  • ST = stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • YO = yarn over
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • PS = puff stitch
Special Stitches:
  • HDC (half double crochet):  YO, insert your hook into the desired stitch, YO and pull up a loop (you now have 3 loops on your hook),  YO and pull through all 3 loops.
  • PS (puff stitch):  note, this puff only has 5 loops - YO, insert your hook into the desired stitch, YO and pull up a loop (you have 3 loops on your hook), YO and insert the hook back into the same stitch, YO and pull up a loop (you have 5 loops on your hook), YO and pull through all 5 loops.
Pattern:
Row 1:  CH 26, then HDC into the 3rd CH from your hook and into each CH across (24), CH 1 and turn
Row 2:  PS in the first ST, SC in the next ST, PS in the next ST, SC in the next ST, continue this sequence to the end of the row (24), CH 1 and turn
Row 3:  PS in the first ST, SC in the next ST, PS in the next ST, SC in the next ST, continue this sequence to the end of the row (24), CH 1 and turn

Row 4:  HDC into each ST across (24), CH 1 and turn
Row 5:  Repeat Row 3
Row 6:  Repeat Row 3
Row 7:  Repeat Row 4
Row 8:  Repeat Row 3
Row 9:  Repeat Row 3
Row 10:  Repeat Row 4
Row 11:  Repeat Row 3
Row 12:  Repeat Row 3
Row 13:  Repeat Row 4
Row 14:  Repeat Row 3
Row 15:  Repeat Row 3
Row 16:  Repeat Row 4
Row 17:  Repeat Row 3
Row 18:  Repeat Row 3
Row 19:  Repeat Row 4

The Edging:
Work a SC into the same ST as the last HDC ST
Rotate your work 90 degrees so that you are working along the side of the washcloth, and work 1 SC into the end of each of the 19 rows, making sure to work 2 SC ST into the corner (this ensures that your washcloth will lay flat and not curl up at the corners)
Picture
Rotate your work 90 degrees so that you're working along the beginning CH row and work a SC into each ST across (24), work 2 SC ST into this corner as well
Rotate your work again and work a SC into the end of each of the 19 rows on the other side of the washcloth, work 2 SC ST into the corner
Rotate one more time and work a SC into each ST of the last row of HDC ST, SL ST into the first SC ST, DO NOT TIE OFF YET

To make a loop for hanging at the corner of the washcloth:  From where your hook is, CH 10 and SL ST back into the same ST where you started the CH 10 (this forms the loop).  Now you can tie off your yarn and weave in the ends!

I hope you enjoyed this pattern.  I'd love to see the colors you choose to make yours!  I love to make a bunch in all different colors!

Please take care of yourself and give your loved ones lots of hugs!  Hugs, love and crochet are all awesome stress reducers!  Hug your kids, your husband, your dog, your cat, or even your yarn!  Talk to you soon!

Sending you lots of positive energy,
Krista ☮
Just a note:  You are welcome to sell what you make from my pattern, and it would be awesome if you link back to me at crochetandpositivity.com.  I just ask that you don't republish or sell the pattern itself as your own.
